Easy Homemade Cinnamon Rolls

Cinnamon rolls are a classic comfort food and if you have a carb weakness, like I do, then you won’t want to pass up in trying these delicious goodies. They are so easy to put together and your house will smell absolutely amazing as they bake!

You can fill these with your favorite roll filling. I’ll be honest that we like chocolate chips best! This recipe does make a very large batch, but go ahead and make them all up. Once they are baked and iced, wrap them individually in plastic wrap and pop them into the freezer. You can reheat them in your microwave in just over a minute and have the perfect late night snack!

Easy Homemade Cinnamon Rolls

  • 4 cups warm water
  • 2 tbsp yeast
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 6-7 cups flour
  • 1 cube butter, melted
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup ground cinnamon
  • 2 cups chocolate chips, raisins, nuts, etc. (all optional)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tbsp almond extract

Proof the yeast in a bowl with warm water. As the yeast is blooming, in a separate large bowl, mix 3 cups of flour, sugar, and salt. Add in warm water, oil, and proofed yeast. Stir well with a wooden spoon. Slowly add in more flour until your dough starts to come together. You will want the dough to be pliable, but not sticky. Just be careful to not add too much flour (this will make your dough too dry and it will not rise properly). Knead well for about 5 minutes. When the dough has come together, place the dough back into the bowl and cover with a towel. Place the bowl in a warm area in your kitchen and let the dough rise for 1 hour or until the dough has doubled.

After the 1 hour, roll the dough out on your countertop into a rectangular shape, rolling until 1/2 inch thick. Spread melted butter over the entire surface of the dough until coated well. You can use your hands/fingers to spread this, or just use the back of a spoon. Sprinkle with brown sugar and ground cinnamon, again spreading evenly over the dough.

If you like additional items in your filling, you can also add chocolate chips, raisins, nuts, etc. Customize this to what your family loves best!

Starting with the longer side of the dough, roll up, avoiding to overstretch your dough. With a piece of string, or dental floss, cut the dough into 1 inch thick slices. Place rolls on a greased cookie sheet, allowing a little room between each roll for them to rise and spread. Cover once more with a towel and let rise until doubled in size.

Bake for 15-20 minutes at 325 degrees. As the rolls are baking, mix together powdered sugar, milk, and almond extract to make icing.

Once the rolls have cooled, drizzle with icing.

Enjoy!
