Traditional Homemade Granola

I have a personal opinion that granola is one of the most underrated foods available. I know, that may sound a bit extreme, but there are so many different ways to use granola outside of the traditional yogurt/fruit topping. Think about it, eat it plain with some milk (like cereal), top off your favorite ice cream of sherbet, add to cookies for an extra crunch, we use it in breakfast popsicles. Just think about it.

Traditional Homemade Granola

  • 4 cups oats
  • 1 cup chopped cashews
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup sunflower seeds
  • 2 tbsp flax seeds
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/3 cup coconut oil (melted)
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup craisins

Start by mixing oats, nuts, and seeds together. Whisk together honey, oil, cinnamon and vanilla. Pour over oat mixture and stir well.

Spread on a greased cookie sheet and bake at 300 degrees for 10 min. Stir mixture on pan and bake another 10 minutes.

Let cool completely and pour into a bowl. Mix in craisins. Store in an airtight container.

We like this best with yogurt or sprinkled on fresh fruit. I also eat this like cold cereal with a splash of oat milk.
