A classic chocolate cake is always a great go-to for any dessert choice. This recipe adds a wonderful depth of flavor to your chocolate cake that is truly unmatched. While sourdough and cake may sound like an interesting combination, I can assure you you will not regret making this one.
Sourdough Chocolate Cake
- 1 cup sourdough discard
- 2 cups flour
- 2 cups milk
- 1 cup sugar or honey
- 1 cup melted butter
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 3 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
The night before, mix together flour, milk, and sourdough discard to make a sponge. Let sit overnight or a minimum of 8 hours.
Mix in remaining ingredients, stirring well until fully incorporated.
Bake at 375 degrees in a 9×13 pan for 25-30 min. Let cool and frost with chocolate frosting.
For frosting, whip 1 cube butter, 2 tbsp milk, 1 tsp vanilla, 1 tbsp cocoa, 1/2 tsp almond extract, and 3-4 cups of powdered sugar.
Spread evenly across cooled cake and enjoy.
