Fudge Nut Bars

These fudgy-oatmeal bars are one of those treats that instantly take me back to my great-grandmother. They were one of her famous recipes that our family knows and loves. You can use milk or dark chocolate, though I will say that our family prefers the flavor of the milk chocolate here. You can make it with or without the nuts and will absolutely love them either way!

Give these Fudge Nut Bars a try the next time you need to satisfy your sweet tooth. You won’t regret it!

Fudge Nut Bars

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 3 cups quick oats
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 12oz chocolate chips (we prefer milk chocolate)
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (we like pecans best)

Cream together 1 cup butter and both sugars. Add eggs and mix well. Stir in soda, salt and vanilla. Mix in oats, then add flour, mixing until all flour is incorporated well. Press about 2/3 of the dough into a large greased cookie sheet.

In a medium saucepan, over low heat, melt together chocolate chips, condensed milk, and remaining 2 tbsp of butter. Once it is all smooth and melted together well, add nuts, then pour warm mixture over dough in pan. Spread evenly.

Using the remaining 1/3 amount of the dough, form small silver dollar-sized pieces and put on top of the chocolate mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes.

Enjoy!
