Hot Cocoa Oatmeal

The chilly winter mornings often leave me wanting something warm and comforting. However, the older I’m getting, the more I realize the importance of eating a nutritional breakfast on the low-glycemic index. I know that may seem a bit extreme, but let’s be honest, the first meal you feed yourself can really set a precedence for the way your body responds the rest of the day.

Now, back to the recipe. Satisfy that sweet tooth and enjoy the flavors of your favorite comfort foods.

Hot Cocoa Oatmeal

  • 1/2 cup old fashioned oats (I use GF)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp honey
  • 1/4 cup milk (I use oat milk)

Bring water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Add oats and cocoa, and cook for approximately 2-3 minutes, or until oatmeal reaches desired consistency. Remove from heat and add vanilla and honey. Stir well. Pour into a bowl and add creamer if your choice. Garnish with a a few dark chocolate chips, or cocoa nibs.
