Comfort food is a guilty pleasure for us, and if I’m being honest, a regular on our family menu. There is just something about a meal that takes you back to a past memory, or reminds you of someone special. This recipe goes back to my great-grandma and while we have tried a few variations, we always go back to this time-honored classic.
Grandma’s Scalloped Potatoes
- 4-5 cups thinly sliced potatoes
- 3 tbsp butter
- 3 tbsp flour
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 dash cayenne pepper
- 1 cup grated cheese
- 1/2 cup grated cheese for top (optional)
- paprika for garnish
In a small pan, melt butter, blend in flour and let cook for 1 minute. Whisk in well. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Cook on med-low until smooth and boiling. Reduce heat and stir in cheese.
Place 1/2 of the potatoes in a greased pan. Pour 1/2 of the cheese sauce over the potatoes. Repeat with remaining potatoes and cheese. Sprinkle remaining cheese on top. Top with paprika. Bake 60-90 minutes at 350 degrees.
Enjoy!
